Company History

The L & M Brokerage Company

got its name from Bob Logan and Joe McGee when they kicked off their produce brokerage partnership in January of 1964. When Bob Logan left the business less than a year later, Joe McGee became the sole owner. However, the L & M portion of the company name has never changed.

In July of 1977, L & M Transportation Services was incorporated. The original focus of LMTS was to transport trailers for Carolina Refrigerated Trailer Sales from Texas to North Carolina. Rather than hauling the trailers empty, the transportation division started transporting produce in those trailers. Shortly thereafter, LMTS began moving regulated, dry freight. L & M Transportation was primarily a truckload (TL) transportation brokerage company until it unveiled a less than truckload (LTL) division in July, 2000.

In 1978, LMTS employed two people and generated $2 million in revenue. In the 1990's, the name L & M Brokerage became L & M Companies to better reflect the various companies that make up L & M as it is today. Joe McGee is also a major stockholder of L & M Transportation Services, Inc. (LMTS).

Thirty-seven years later, the company has six locations, over fifty employees, and annual revenues of over $100 million. Today, L & M Transportation is a third party provider of innovative regional, national, and international transportation, warehousing, and distribution solutions and related information and customer services.

LMTS owes its growth and success to its shipping, receiving, and carrier partners, while its loyal, dedicated, long-term employees are truly the backbone of the company.

L & M Transportation has been featured in Land Line Magazine, named a "Best Broker" by the National Association of Small Trucking Companies (NASTC), listed #22 in the Triangle Business Journal's Fast 50 as one of the fastest growing privately held companies in the Triangle (NC) area, honored as one of the Triangle's Future 30 companies, and recognized by Compunet Credit Services as a TIA Gold Broker Award winner and for its exceptional payment practices.

LMTS is a member of Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) and a Transportation Member of Produce Reporter Company's Blue Book.

L & M Transportation stays involved in its local community by supporting the N.C. State University Student Aid Association, sponsoring youth sports teams, being one of the Friends of the Battleship North Carolina, and giving its time and financial resources to many other charities.
